OUR STORY

It all began in 2020, in the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a desire to both look and feel good while riding our bikes. Why are there so few choices for women? How come there’s no inclusive sizing? Where do you find riding gear that’s actually comfortable enough to ride in?!

We talked. We ranted. We raved. Then somebody said, “hey, someone should open a shop!” One year later, that someone was me.

AK Cycle Chic opened in July 2021, after a year of planning during the pandemic. The original intent was to offer just cycling gear, but in just one year it evolved into a boutique whose apparel extends beyond cycling to include active, outdoor, and athleisure wear for all seasons. I’m proud to feature many women-led and local manufacturers and, in addition to apparel, the shop has many fun gifts, an art gallery, and hosts events such as First Fridays and workshops throughout the year.

Meet the Owner

Krystal Offord

Krystal is a born and raised Alaskan, and other than a few years out of state for school, has lived in Alaska her entire life. Growing up as the last of 11 children, she always had hand-me- down bikes. Mastering a garage sale unicycle is her biggest accomplishment. Her first brand- new bike was a fat tire bike that is now 9 years old (upgrade? I think yes). As owner of the business, she is proud to be Alaskan grown and bring local retail for all adventurers.

Special thanks to:

Mist D’June-Gussak - for designing the amazing AK Cycle Chic logo.

Brooke McLaughlin, Associate Broker from The Summit Group, for helping us find the perfect location.

My mission is to get more people on bikes, onto more trails, participating in more events, and to support them every pedal stroke along the way.
